Neurology deals with disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system.
The TeleStroke system, which has been in operation since September 2008, provides 24-hour internet-based video and voice connectivity and non-stop consultation to nearby hospitals, enabling the immediate start of care essential for the effective treatment of acute brain catastrophes. By setting up the system, it was possible to restore circulation to the brain of a patient with an acute stroke who arrived within three hours. Patients who are deemed suitable for clot-busting treatment undergo a preliminary CT scan on site.
In addition to cerebral circulatory disorders, the clinic also acts as a regional centre for other neurology specialities. It is also a leading player in the investigation and treatment of adult epilepsy, neuromuscular and neuroimmune diseases, Parkinson's disease, dementias, headache and chronic pain, and polyneuropathies in the region.
At the Neurology Clinic, the only sleep and epilepsy laboratory in Eastern Hungary, sleep disorders affecting a large percentage of the population, such as insomnia, abnormal snoring, as well as heart and other diseases associated with sleep disorders, are treated.
In the ultrasound laboratory, in addition to a carotid Doppler ultrasound scan to detect carotid artery stenosis, a transcranial Doppler ultrasound scan of the blood flow in the blood vessels within the skull is also performed. The electrophysiology laboratory offers EEG, ENG, EMG and evoked response tests.
The complications of diabetes - burning feet, numbness, paralysis - are also effectively treated in a similar way to the treatment of neuropathy and specific locomotor disorders.
