Cardiology tests are used to detect cardiac dysfunction. The suspicion is raised by a general medical or other specialist or screening test. The incidence of cardiovascular disease starts to rise over the age of 40.
General medical and laboratory screening is recommended annually for higher risk age groups. Cardiology tests are either completely risk-free (ECG, ultrasound) or of minimum risk (exercise ECG, transoesophageal echocardiography).
